If you haven’t heard of the hottest new podcast in town then you’re missing out! I’ve recently launched The Road Less Travelled to share inspiring career stories from quirky people; listen to it here on Spotify.

In this post I’ll share the top five things I learnt whilst chatting to my first guest: author, playwright, theatre reviewer, music critic and all-around fabulous person, Nicky Watkinson.

1. Lean into imposter syndrome

Nicky got her first writing gigs through reaching out to people on Instagram. A bold move. A move I know I didn’t have the guts for at 18. Those pesky “What if they don’t reply”, “what if they don’t like me” thoughts were always there but she pushed through and hit send anyway.

Nicky said, “I actually preferred writing for a readership that didn’t know me as the anonymity helped me beat the imposter syndrome you inevitably feel when you’re just starting. Well always actually.”

Imposter syndrome is inevitable but the more you lean into it, the more you’ll beat it.

2. The growth cycle: idea  immersion  grow  overwhelm  refine  pivot
